Breaking News: Ahmed Ali Mohamed, President of the ARD Federation of Obock, Released from Prison
On Thursday, the president of the ARD federation of Obock and the ARD political party’s secretary, Ahmed Ali Mohamed, was released from Gabode prison after having spent a month behind bars. Although the court handed down a suspended sentence of twelve months despite releasing him.
A photo taken this afternoon shows Mr Mohamed (second from the left) with a big smile on his face, hailed by supporters and well-wishers.
In response to Mr Mohamed’s release, the ARD federation of Obock has issued a statement demanding the immediate release of all political and civilian prisoners detained for several months, and in some cases, for more than two years. The statement specifically named Barkat Ali Oudoum and Fouad Ali as prisoners held in the notorious Gabode prison.
Mohamed Abakari, the communications secretary for the organization, expressed the organization’s relief and joy at Mr Mohamed’s release. He emphasized the urgency of releasing other prisoners detained without trial or access to legal representation.
The ARD federation of Obock is expected to continue to push for the release of all political and civilian prisoners in the coming weeks.
